will an engine flush help. .......... ?
Hello All. I will try and keep this short! Had my 159 1.9 Lusso from almost new. Absolutely no snags until about 60,000 miles when the EGR valve was replaced. Since then, (now 73,000 miles) the car has not run smoothly.
Frequent visits back to the garage (excellent Alfa indie) but still no cure. Much advice and help sought from these forums. Everything pointed towards the MAF Sensor as being the culprit. So, a new one was sourced - actually a second hand one from a same year vehicle that was being broken for spares. Car still not running smoothly. Back to the garage. This time, the 'after market' warranty company I have on the vehicle agreed to fit a new MAF Sensor but not a genuine OEM one! Still, the gargae said not a problem, it still a genuine Bosch and for all intents is the same. For the first month or so everything was good! Wooohooo! Just the very occasional 'hiccup' but I could live with that. It seemed the MAF Sensor was indeed the problem.
Mmmm, perhaps not. The smooth running is progressively getting worst. In all cases, if I unplug the MAF Sensor the car drives fine. I now have 3 MAF Sensors, none of which allow the car to drive smoothly and each of which affect it in slightly different ways- I could tell you how the car will behave depending upon which MAF sensor is installed!
I have spoken with MAF Sensor suppliers who seem to suggest that the replacement Bosch that was fitted was faulty and should be changed. I'm not convinced, surely one of the three would be ok? So, to the point (finally!). Should I stick with what I've got and see if it will iron itself out and any good flushes or additives I could add to the tank to help? I have tried the MAF Sensor cleaner by the way, several times!
Don't listen to what I say, listen to what I mean ..............
