Brake fluid

I have a 56 plate Alfa 159 2.2 JTS and I need to do some work on the brakes. After I have finished I will probably need to top up the brake fluid. I'm not sure what is currently in there, it could be the original Tutela Top 4 or it could have been and probably has been changed along the way.

My question is, can I top it up with normal dot 4 brake fluid? I know that the manual says dot 4 is fine but I wasn't sure about mixing brakes fluids.

At that age, it certainly should have had the fluid changed at least once. For all that a can of DOT4 costs, I'd play safe and drain the complete system so you've got nice fresh fluid throughout.
