I've had a look through some of the previous coolant-based threads, and taken some of the advice posted, but after today, I'm a bit perplexed!
So, a few days ago, I was driving to work, and after a short, but hard acceleration from 30-60, I noticed the temp gauge rise to about 120C. Lifted off the throttle and it went back to normal. Thought nothing more of it. Happened again a couple of days later and so checked and yup, no coolant visible in the expansion tank!
Topped up to MAX with some pre-mix stuff and left to settle overnight. Today I let her run at idle with the cap off to work out any air locks. All good. Just taken her for a spirited 30 min drive and the level is back to MIN. If anything, I though it would rise due to heat expansion! Where the top and bottom of the bottom are fused together, there is a wet line of coolant, and on the pipe at the bottom of the tank it looks as though there might be some on there.
Could it actually be leaking from where the top and bottom of the bottle join?
I have a metal screw on the coolant pipe across the front of the engine (thanks to Tracer, cheers mate) and there are no obvious signs of leakage elsewhere.
I'm supposed to be driving approx 250 miles tomorrow, and I'm a bit worried!
NB - I only put 1L of coolant in, could it just be working round the system and need some more to be fully topped up?
