Ive been looking for a guide for ages on how to remove and clean egr on 2.0jdtm. I got fed up of waiting and just did it. It has improved the car since and the EGR was pretty cruddy. although a full inlet manifold clean is really needed on mine i think for full effect.
Ive posted some pictures. 101k, never cleaned that I know of. quite wet which is concerning..
Had to remove glow plug control module (one nut) and push it to one side to get the EGR condensor pipe out. also removed some clips holding the large wire running down back side of engine just for more clearance, starter motor i assume didnt look.
hope this helps someone.
I still have small occasional blip at approx 1750rpm but its not egr relate i dont believe. Up to 2k response is much better but not great in this scorching weather..
i was going to fit blanking plate with small hole but i dropped it while fitting and couldnt find it so that will go on next time i get a chance..
camera phone with a flash is a must for this if its a diy job, you can look where you cant see
. no fancy tools just a few sockets and an allen key. quite a bit of leaning over back of engine, so protective mat over the everso thin paint..
cleaned with carb cleaner, rather than egr cleaner as it was cheaper and basically the same. biggest change was a few days later when car had learnt that the correct fuel settings now the egr was playing nice.
