Popped down to see my mate (sales manager) at our local Alfa stealers (and got a set of 166 ti pack skirts for my 164 free in the process
- got to make them fit now
), I digress... The 159; I was not impressed.
What can I say, it's a jumped up 156 with more toys and a new interior as far as the ergonomics are concerned. The cloth seats are figure hugging (why can't I fit in the new Alfa's!!!
) to say the least and the controls are all in clever places but have a soft spongy lifeless feel to them. Too many toys and controls for my likeing but unfortunately if Alfa wants to sway Baverian Manure Wagon drivers over to the dark side, they need to coax them with plenty of toys. Driving the 1.9 JTDMWotSit was good but nothing terribly new over the 156 or GT that I have also driven (in anger too
). You can't really feel the extra rigidity over say a GT but I'm sure it's there as claimed.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind testing a 3.2 but as they are special order in my neck of the woods and the stealers owner only gets in 166 2.4 JTD's, a 3.2 demo car is unlikely
So to sum up, I still prefer the 166 any day of the week!
