Well, I don't have a map, yet my EGR is blocked and my DPF is hollow.
1) For the EGR, you can block this and it will not cause your engine any problems (it will infact benefit it), you will get a check engine warning light though. Technically this is an MOT failure, so you have to remove the plate before the MOT, (you will have to restart the engine 2-3 times and the fault light will turn off), a bit of a hassle though.
2) You can core the DPF, it will continue to regen (and you are likely to get white smoke during regen), or you can drill the rear face off the DPF, and will gain the benefits (there are numerous threads on this, just do a search for drill DPF). Removing the DPF entirely with a bypass pipe will bring errors/ limp as the sensors have been removed.
If the DPF blocks up you will still get a limp mode, though people drilling the rear claim that is stops all issues with the DPF with no engine issues.
I've gone a halfway route, with EGR blocked and DPF cored (the sensors are still attached rather than a bypass pipe) and have got a fixitsan Dongle (he used to be a member on here), it costs about £30 delivered).
This is a small OBD reader that fits in the diagnostic plug). This device deletes specific EGR fault codes that related to a blocked EGR (and so stop the warning light, this means it won't hide any other issues that might cause the light to come on) , and it also resets the DPF regen countdown every time you start the car ( it regens on a time basis....every 16 hours or so).
As a result the car is not mapped (with associated insurance issues), and I don't get regens or EGR issues, there is little extra force on the clutch (though power below 2,000rpm is noticeably better). My MPG has also increased 5mpg during this time.
For the dongle google 'yahoo groups DPF' and will take you to a new group
