Good Morning To ONE & ALL!! (Cornish Link)
New to this, but here goes if anyone can help or advise,,, PLEASE :O)
I have recently purchased a lovely 2007 2.4 JTDM Brera with 70000 miles on the clock and a full service history from a private sale near London.
The car is cracking and lovely to drive until.......
Yep, I went to Celtic Tuning for a remap of the engine, which they did and it was fantastic with power, torque and fuel consumption!! There is a But coming....
There then came Black smoke from the rear of the car on hard acceleration, so had the EGR blanked, but still it continued.
During the black smoke phase, I went to Bradleys Alfa (Scorrier) to have new cam belt, water pump, K&N Air filter and Brake discs / Pads fitted, which was done.
When I went to pick up the car from Bradleys, Gary the mechanic said "I noticed the car is a bit sluggish when I pulled across the road earlier" Worried, Hmmmmm... Just a bit!!
Anyway, I drove the car for about a mile when the engine light came on and said to have the engine checked. The car went into the famous LIMP mode and acceleration / power was dreadful. Went straight back to Bradleys where they ran a test and said it appears to be the MAF sensor (A few threads on here relating to this I know!!)
The reading on the diagnostics was 1189 static from the ECU, but the car was bringing in normal fluctuating readings (Hope this makes sense, not technically minded). The ECU reading should have been mirroring what the car was doing, but simply stayed locked at 1189?? Unplugged the MAF sensor and the car went like a rocket again, but with the engine light still on.
Took the car back to Celtic Tuning to see if they could throw some light on the issue and they have been really good, running test after test to see if they could see the fault, but again came up with the same fault, that being the MAF sensor, so a new Bosch one was ordered and fitted, but no joy same again!!
Celtic Tuning have now removed the EGR blanking and returned the remap to a stock setting, making the car totally standard. Upon driving away the car went into LIMP mode, so I pulled over and unplugged the MAF sensor and it went like a rocket again, really confused now??
The car has been back to Bradleys on Friday this week (28/06/2013) and another diagnostic test run with the readings being exactly the same 1189 and not fluctuating?? The mechanic stated that if it was a new car he would say the ECU is knackered and advise replacing (Could this be the cause of my issues?).
By the way the EGR has been cleaned and have completed an ECU reset has seen on some threads on here. That is the disconnect battery 45 mins, plug in key, remove key etc......
This worked for a mile then BANG... back to LIMP mode, unplug the MAF and rocket power again!!
PLEASE, PLEASE could someone help or advise :O)
By the way I'm keeping the car as I LOVE IT!!!!!
