IMHO, you'd have regretted the diesel model down the line. I've had a few cr diesels in my time and they are OK up to a point, but always the usual suspects that give you grief ie injectors, egr, dpf, dmf, candles, turbo boost sensors etc then there are the limitations of a diesel engine, no power, run out of puff at 4k revs and the 1.9 JTD in particular sounds like an old taxi at idle, not the noise an italian sports saloon should make
If you don't do 10 miles plus commute at constant revs everyday, it's not really worth it. For me, my commute is short, half the time I cycle, but the other half I am lazy, it's about 4 miles. The car will do a lot of shunting around, then at weekends will get properly driven and every couple of months it does a 600 mile round trip to Kent and back. That's it's life with me doing 8-10k per year. I paid £4k on the nose for my car yesterday, an 06 2.2JTS Lusso with 87k OTC in silver with red leather. One or two small things to do (power folds, touch in all the chips, refurb alloys etc) but I would value a diesel one at £1000 more than that at least, so I'd have to keep the diesel 2 years longer, or do 20,000 more miles in it to make it pay for itself. And it still wouldn't make a noise like mine, nor will it pull from 35 mph in 6th gear, nor does the 1.9 have fancy shiny twin exhaust pipes to polish
Enjoy your car mate, the 1.8 isn't as bad as its made out to be, hope it (and mine!) turn out OK
No offence to anyone who has a diesel, I've just had it with the euro emission stuff that makes them unreliable, if they were as good as they used to be, it wouldn't bother me that they ere slow!
