Alfa 159 subframe rust
We bought a 159 7 months ago, 2.4jtdm 200hp 2007 car with a nice low mileage.
We've covered 10k in it and we took it to get serviced. Our mechanic has reported back that the front subframe has substantial corrosion on it, all over. He has cleaned it up and applied black waxoil. He handed me a bag of iron oxide that he'd cleaned off the frame - it's thick, dark, structural corrosion.
Clearly the frame will need replacing soon. How big a job is it on a 159? I can get access to a variety of lifts, transmission jacks etc. but how many hours would the job be expected to take for a professional mechanic? I'm very worried this is going to be a wallet-buster, which is a shame since we bought it to replace an Audi TT that had been nothing but trouble.
