Hello all and thanks for the replies!
absolutely true! and your last phrase "I think in my heart I'd always miss my bella." did hit the spot! It is the most accurate description of what I'm actually afraid of feeling once I let the 159 go!
I will be giving to whoever buys it a real treat, I know that! The investment, I won't be getting it back, not really....but I suppose this will happen with any car I get. On a funny note, my local Vospers does sell the Panda 1.2 pop brand new in white for 7000 pounds, which is not bad, but....nevertheless...a panda? I think it won't be downgrading, it will be a massacre!
You really read my mind! There are some expensive repairs on the horizon and now, with a fresh MOT on the car, half new tires and everything still working fine I might still get a good 3000£ trade-in value. It hurts like hell just saying 3000, good and my Alfa in the same sentence
Your argument on the 4000k is excellent, but the big downside of my 159 is the diesel engine and the London incompatibility. Also, city mpg's will be going downhill and the DPF regens will probably drive me insane. On the spending side, I am looking at something close to 1500-2000£ for the alfa. The belts will need changing again, the clutch and the flywheel are also something to consider, plus the brake caliper, all-round disks and pads and so on....
Thanks for the input on the 500! I will get back a bit later on the 500! The Abarth? Looks sweeeeeeeeeet! But EXPENSIVEEEEE
)) And for my age (29) it's a bit youngish
Good idea with the Mito! I took a look at one today at the alfa/fiat dealership. Looks nice but figures are running way beyond my trade-in budget. Plus, it's a little expensive on the insurance side. If i'm going small and cost-conscious, I might as well do it all-around. #
You could be good as a car seller, already asking what paint I want on it
) Nevertheless, excellent argument about the lack of sense in a 159 diesel in the city. Thanks on the thoughts of the 500, but I still have some things to share about it as I....
......TEST DROVE ONE TODAY
Impressions? It looks awesome on the outside, and before appearances there is a sense of "legend" attached to it. There is a simplicity that is striking and appealing at the same time.
On the test drive the car felt nice, but the position of driving, for me, is appalling! Smallest pedals I have ever seen!
We went on the way to Torquay on a dual carriageway and there is a relatively small hill for about a mile where the A38 splits in two. With the sales rep in the car, fairly skinny bloke, friend of mine. Doing 65 on the flat stretch just before the hill. In fifth. A quarter way uphill, no more power at all, speed dropping visibly. Now doing 58 mph. Shifted to fourth, made it barely to 50 mph on the way up, with revs in the 4000 margin. Now please don't get your swords out to decapitate me. I arrived with NO expectations for this test drive. I did not and do not compare it to my Alfa! But this episode does not seem normal! It was the popular 1.2 petrol engine. Another thing: noise at over 50-55 mph - impossible to talk! I know, I am taking it to the city but these are compromises difficult to make! Bottom line i was unimpressed by the fiat. And i attribute this purely to a question of taste. The car looks great but, to my taste, drives not so well.
I also saw the new Panda on offer, in white, in Pop version, with the same 1.2 engine for 7000 pounds, brand new. The new bit it is really attractive but there's the downside of the engine and it's a heavier car than the 500.....does that mean I'll have to push? Sorry...I'm just being mean!
So I went looking! Citroen was out of the question due to personal prejudice, peugeot - in the same situation. I ended up looking at a couple of vauxhalls and a 2011 - 10.000 mile Corsa D SXI 1.2 16V VVt caught my eye. The difference would be the same as for the 500 - 4000 pounds. This one has 5 doors, leather steering wheel, cruise control, it's almost top of the range. Still 8 months manufacturer warranty plus the one year second hand warranty as bought from main dealer. A rather small car, 5 doors which is huge plus, looks a bit sporty, only 10.00 miles, accessorized and top spec but without the navigation. The reviews on the corsa are very good!
I am really indecided, I really hoped this trading-in business would be easier
