Been a few years since i passed ownership of my '01 1.8 156 Veloce over to my sister. I originally bought the car as i needed to buy my own car and i didn't want to spend too much, loved it (and still do) so now i am approaching being in the same situation again, I find myself looking at 159's.....
Keen to get a "cheap" one, I have about £4-5k to spend as i don't want any finance, and this seems to get me into a 2.4d, 1.9d, or a 1.8 or 2.2 Petrol lusso on or around an '06 plate
To my mind the 1.8 petrol is too weedy, so that's out the window, so apart from the obvious 2.2 hesitation issues which i would look out for and 2.4d fuel consumption which doesn't really bother me as the car will be running c.8k per year, is there anything else i should be looking out for, or is there any reason i shouldn't buy a 1.9JTDM?
There are plenty of high (120k+) mile cars knocking about for not much money, any addition issues other than the obvious i should be wary of? The 156 is still problem (and rust) free at nearly 140k, plus i have run plenty of cars way beyond 150k in the past so big miles don't scare me in principle. I could go sub £4k and leave money in the bank for problems on something like this:-
Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTDM Lusso 4dr Diesel Saloon 2006
Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 JTDM 16V LUSSO 4DR 2006
Is this just plain nuts and should i get the most expensive low miler i can afford?:-
Alfa Romeo 159 2.2 JTS Lusso 4dr Saloon 2006
Personally i am inclined to go with the high miles low price plan and bank a rainy day fund....
