Torque wrenches can fail, as can humans, you usually only ever find out when your nuts are loose on the road.
I had my old 156's rear n/s wheel bearing replaced, the next day I arrived in the Lakes 300 miles away and investigated a noise to find I only had 2 out of 5 wheel bolts, the locking bolt was missing, and those that were left were finger tight.
I don't mind as much that it happened, there's 2 mechanics in the family and I understand exactly how this can happen. Though I did become upset when the garage bought me the cheapest set of locking nuts they could find and then didn't even offer to fit them. Just "Cheap MOT when you want mate." They're lucky I was near tools and spare bolts when I discovered this, no recovery or anything to sort out.
Williams Garage in Otterbourne.
