Well, assuming that with that kind of a mileage you are after an oiler, 10k should get you a 2.0 Jdtm. This has two advantages:
1. The stronger clutch and gearbox from the 2.4
2. A redesigned EGR and DPF which makes issues with these bits less likely (although not impossible)
Like any diesel from the time, 1.9s and 2.4s are prone to DPF and EGR issues. Personally I wouldn't bother buying one without budgeting for a remap and DPF removal on top. Granted a remapped 2.4 is a beast
When I was buying, the 1750 TBi petrols were out of my price range. For the 15k miles I do a year, I'd say 'sod it' and buy one of those, albeit with a proper 'zoorst to make it sound decent.
As for general issues, standard 2nd hand car stuff really. Check the lower steering fluid for 'green' rather than 'red' fluid. Check the inner edges of the front tyres for excessive wear, which can be cured with a Hunter wheel alignment.
