159 timing chain woes - pointers please
Just changed my 2.2 Brera (due to growing kids) for a 2.2 159 and not as painful as I thought! The 159 has the 'check engine' message which I took to the local indie Alfa specialist for code reading. 3 codes pointed to the timing chain needing replacing. I'm used to cambelt changes and their estimate for the timing chain was minimum £600 plus VAT plus fitting costs using genuine Alfa parts. So looking at a £1000 all in. Gulp. Can anyone help me please with the following:
1. The web, including ebay, has kits for £150 upwards - my indie garage won't fit them as they say they are rubbish and the fault will come back. Are these kits any good? do they have everything in them thats needed?
2. Is it a job that a competent mechanic can do? or do they need 'alfa experience'?
