Newbie with 159 1.9 JTDM

Okay folks all going well I will be picking up an 59plate 159 Ti 1.9JTDM on Sunday. Servicing wise the car doesnt need anything for a while and its the "standard" Ti spec. It my first Alfa, first saloon and first foray from german cars so a little leap of faith. I know VW's / Audi's very well but not so Alfa's.

What Im wondering is what are the essential mods that I should be looking at be it little or small that will make the car better day to day.

So far from the little reading Ive done is:
EGR blanking or removal.
Front mudflaps
Alignment check.

Longer term:
DPF drilling / removal.

Is there anything else I missed out? Ive not searched yet but is periodic injector additives worthwhile and any particular fuels to avoid?

Not essential, but you can update the blue and me. Might also be worth checking if the wiper arm is hitting the bottom of the bonnet, and stop any damage.
Lots of people also add HIDs and LED sidelights, but not really essential!

Don't bother with the drilling DPF route and just go for the straight re map with the DPF & EGR removal. Gus at Alfatune is your man. You have fettled your other cars so you know the score, the amount of tourque you get will from a Alfatune remap are unreal.

See this, is a big thread but well worth a read.

Mines fettled too and its unreal.

The "Alfatune" full works
60mm Core Full size RS500 FMIC
AEM W/M Injection
Koni struts / Novitec springs
Grooved & Dimpled discs and pads
19" Prodrive wheels, Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Halo's HID's & LED's
Hub dyno'd at well over 500lbft at the wheels ! and that's limited.
Thats over 750 Nm for you figure fiddlers

Hello coullstar.

I have a 2008 1.9JTDm with 60k & a full alfa history.
Since picking it up in January I have had the following...

New Cambelt & water pump (Belt was worn & making a whooshing sound when cold at 58K)
Aircon Regas
New Battery
New Clutch & Dual mass flywheel
New Indicator stalk (headlights were on permanently & menu button not working) - RAC Warranty paid for that

I started putting Millers in the fuel & it made a bit of difference but 2 days ago I fitted a new EGR valve (15 minute job) and it has transformed the responsiveness and power.
I didn't want to go down the remap route, and DPF seems to regen regularly without me noticing any ill effects, but have noticed a big difference since fitting the new EGR so happy as it is.

The only gripe I have with mine is sometimes it sounds smooth as silk and sometimes sounds like an old ford fiesta!! God knows why!

Cheers folks, picked the car up yesterday. Very nice, drives well but I will remap at some point. My Beemer was 6cly 3l in a small car and Ive gotten used to the power on tap in any gear. Saying that it didnt do 40mpg though.

Couple of little things Im doing straight off are front mudflaps as bodywork is in really good condition so Id like to keep it that way.

Can you get replacement rear arch film as its loooking a little yellow or am I best of getting some film and doing it myself?

Might need an aircon regass as it wasnt that cold this morning.

If you want a family moving machine then drill DPF and block EGR. If you want performance, torque(and a new clutch ) then get a remap.

Only heard good things about Gus and his remaps, before drilling the DPF I was going to use him but I rarly get to drive the car in anger, when I do the drilled DPF and blocked EGR still bring a smile.

Yeah I think the bank balance will need to recover before looking at remaps etc. Im farily handy with the spanners so Im willing to take jobs on myself so might just try the EGR blank.
