Creaking juddering window

Hi guys
The drivers side window is progressively getting worse. It judders and creaks badly when I open it and close it. Sometimes it drives back open and I have to open it fully to close it.
Feels and sounds like its about to pack up.
any ideas ?

Hi Paul,

I had a similar problem but not quite as bad, just before winter started my window was creaking and thought something was going to seize so foolishly decided to spray some silicone spray into window gap whilst it was down to lubricate things. It got rid of the creak but every time it goes down it comes back up smeared with silicone.

Still, I'd rather that than an expensive repair bill. Hopefully somebody will have a better solution.

I had the window mech replaced because it eventully failed.

You could trying to do a recalibration of the windows first.

had a similar issue in my old 166 once and it was because the nice soft rubber / felt runner down inside the door has been pushed down by the window and got all wrinkled up and jammed at the bottom causing the window to pinch down one side and judder / stick. it was a door card off to mend job but at easy fix when I got in there. If you are lucky that maybe the solution but I doubt it.

might be worth seeing if the runner along the bottom of the window could be greased to ease it?

had the drivers window mechanism replaced on mine earlier this year. started off with creaking, grinding, and going slow/stopping. it eventually packed up altogether. the motor was fine (thankfully) but the steel cables that haul the glass up & down were all frayed to bits. new mechanism is approx 100 plus a couple of hours worth of labour. a pig of a job by all accounts.
