159 EOBD light & others

The EOBD light came up recently with a loss of performance and subsequently other fault lights including hill holder, VDC, ASR, with petrol gauge light flashing and gauge fluctuating from actual to zero. Took it to Alfa dealer, for service and fault finding who are suggesting requires the cam chain and variator renewing - this despite having the cam chain replaced 12 months ago on a low mileage car (after 34k miles). Concern is that they are not sure this will rectify the problems, as the other fault lights appear totally unconnected to this and would suggest more of a computer (ECU) issue than mechanical?
After driving home from service, car went into limp mode and then cut out. Wouldn't start then recently did, but still has same performance issues.
Seeking views and opinions please as do not want to pay out unnecessarily for work that is not required.

Any Progress with 159 warning lights?

Did anyone ever get anywhere with finding the cause of the multiple warning lights issue? I've just had pretty much exactly the same thing with my 159 (except for the fuel gauge indicator dropping to zero). Could it be problems with the relevant computer; either connectors or a board?

Check the battery and the negative terminal connection to the body
