Query about engine oil
A week ago the 'Change engine oil' warning flashed up on my dash. I was puzzled to say the least as the car had a full service when I bought it from Stratstone in November 2012. After ringing around local garages, and almost fainting at the dealers quote to change the oil and filter, I spoke to a Fiat specialist who advised me that they may have not reset the oil service warning. So after looking around the forums here I saw this could be a possibility.
Upon phoning the dealer I bought it from they confirmed they changed the oil but they may have not reset the oil service light as they didn't know. While looking through the carried out service print-out I noticed they used Castrol GTX Professional 5w-30. Having already looked through the manual and written down what some garages had said I knew this to be the wrong oil. I believed Castrol GTX to be at most part synthetic, while I assumed most modern engines used fully synthetic. I also assumed the use of fully synthetic to be of even more importance on diesel engines where I believe they can get diesel into the engine oil.
Could be a stupid question here, but is this Castrol 5w-30 potentially damaging to the engine ? Would changing the oil asap be advisable ? Obviously I'm not that happy with the garage I bought it from here.....
