It is possible that you have something blocking the air inlet somewhere, take the air filter out, and try and look down the hoses. As you suggested, you played around with the hoses and it worked for a bit.
Lots of suggestions to do this, but has it been done yet?
The computer is telling you it needs more air, this means it will be the MAF/ MAP, OR there is a blockage somewhere.
Read elsewhere on here that one of the members found his air filter was full of water, so worth opening it up and following the pipe from the air inlet.
