She has to go.
Alas, the time has come to write the post I didn't want to have to write.
But, as you can tell from the title, the time has come for me to move on from the 159. It's been a rollercoaster 6 months since I bought it, but the cost of repairs, insurance, and the worry is just too much to bear for me at the moment.
It's had a lot of money spent on it, and there are a few things which lead me to believe it'll need more soon. It's quite possibly the prettiest car I'll ever own, but I just can't drive down the road with my fingers crossed any more. If I ever want to be able to save any money, that is!
So I'll say my thankyous, but not necessarily my goodbyes. I'll hang around here for sure, and if you'll let me come to a meet or two in a 'foreign' car, then I'll be pleased. I'm certainly looking forward to Market Harborough ice cream in the summer.
So what's next? I've all but signed-on-the-dotted-line for an '08 plate Focus diesel. I've driven its petrol brother, and was pretty impressed. The steering particularly is excellent, and the interior build quality is superb. It's fairly underpowered old girl, but beggars can't be choosers. Plus the seats are incredibly comfortable, more so than the 159 IMO.
I'm sorry, I'm another one that's defected. But I've loved my time in Alfa land (mostly), and this week will be hard, knowing it'll be the last week in that 159. Saying goodbye to it will be a wrench. As a final swansong, it's driving better than it ever has done before. The smoothness and the power of that engine, when it's running well, is epic.
But we have to do these things sometimes. We have to move on from the things we love due to outside influences. Who knows, perhaps I'll be back. I've always fancied a Spider. Or a GT. Or a Brera.......
All the very best folks - thanks for your help.
