Thinking about a remap for my 2.2 Brera S and wondering on people's experiences. The three I've heard about are below...
AHM did my DPF removal on my old car, excellent job and excellent service, but a remap means a long journey and it looks like £480.
Angel seem to want £340 to come to you, or £249 if you travel to Banbury.
Red Dot aren't as specific on the website and just say from £350. They are also a long trip away.
I can probably combine any of the above with work travel, so distance isn't the biggest concern, but Banbury is the easiest and cheapest.
Any downside to any of these companies? Any other options I should consider?
I had my 2.2 159 re-mapped by Red-dot, after I fitted a Autodelta foam air filter, more than 3 years ago and while it did not improve the hesitation issues, the re-map did improve the midrange and torque. Have a look at the before and after rolling road results on my profile images link. Commanderfish (who I met at red dot) had the re-map done around the same time at Red-dot, but he also had the Torque exhaust fitted and custom re-mapped afterwards on rolling road.
They do a custom re-map for a lot of cars and do have some experience with the Alfa engines, including the 2.2JTS. I had it for about £350 back then quoting alfaowner club including a few dyno runs to prove it worked.
Since then I have tried the Mangoletsi Mod4 cone filter which moved the hesitation further down the rev range and less pronounced (removed now due to it going completely rusty).
I have now re-fitted the OEM airbox with Autodelta filter as I am not convinced about the location of the cone filter under the wheel arch, where is susceptible to moisture ingress (hesitation is back and quite pronounced at first cold start around 1500 rpm mark but otherwise not too noticeable when driving in traffic when engine warm).
I am quite convinced that the hesitation on the 2.2JTS is a combination of poorly designed air intake and restrictive exhaust back boxes.
So, if remap is for curing hesitation then not worth it.
If remap is for improving delivery of power, then its worth it.
Not too sure about the other tuners, but they need to have experience of the 2.2 engine. Ask Angel if they have re-mapped the 2.2 specifically.
Don't expect miracles though.
