I've had exactly the same problem with my 2.4. After advice on this forum I whipped off my EGR valve today which I found was sooted up and sticking and spent a hour cleaning it by scraping out the sooty build up and then liberal spraying of carb cleaner and eventually the valve freed up nicely. Then I made up a blanking plate, with an 8mm hole through its centre, that goes between the EGR and inlet manifold and bolted it all back up. Now I have a much more responsive car with no bogging down. Drilling a hole in the plate makes the engine management light happy to stay off so its all good.
