159 ti 1.9 or 2.0 litre diesel?

Just looking for people's opinions on which engine to go for? As an all round package which is the one to go for? Fuel consumption is quite important, tax, insurance and general running costs also important. Any help would be great, thanks.

2.0 every time. Stronger gearbox. Fewer EGR and DPF issues. Tax is slightly cheaper, but 'real world' fuel consumption appears to be a couple of mpg down.

As the 1.9 is older, you'll definitely pick one up cheaper though.

Had the 1.9 in a GT and have the 2.0 in a 159. It's hard to tell on the MPG as the 159 is a heavier car but in every other respect the 2.0 is a better engine. I also test drove a couple of 159's with the 1.9 and felt it didn't suit the car as it was somewhat less refined and the car felt underpowered with it.
