P0011 - Have Engine Checked
Heads up: relatively new to the 159 2.2JTS but familiar enough with ARR service requirements down the years to have checked out forum and other sources for likely niggles, the main one being the "stretched timing chain". And from this forum it seems that P0011 is often (but not always) associated with stretching.
Local independent across the road checked with an AR main dealer (though this forum would I suspect cast doubt on the likely quality of the advice ;-)) and advise that it is the variator that needs replacing and that "they have replaced a lot".
Now I recall the variator from my 155/156/166 2.0TS days - when it's failing it starts to sound like a tractor! Different engine, different result I suspect, i.e. I dont have the tractor noise.
In fact all I have is the warning light, no change in performance, fuel economy not terrible, same old flat spot 1600-1900 rpm.
So, while the warranty people are contacting the garage to try to establish whether the diagnosis is covered I was hoping I could get a steer on whether this is a classic case of misdirection and that it is more likely the stretched chain than the variator. And, if the collective view is that it is most likely the chain HOW does the garage establish that this is the case without commencing the work required? And, HOW do they convince the warranty company that it is the chain?
