No torque, no revs
Seem to be having engine trouble. I wonder if anyone can suggest a possible cause.
Last night, on a longish drive, I realised that the car (159 2.4 diesel) was significantly down on torque before the boost came on. No urge at all below about 2500rpm but then everything pretty much normal from there on up to the redline. I got where I was going, (albeit rather down on economy after using rather more revs than usual) and parked up for the night hoping that it was just gremlins and that it would have sorted itself out by morning.
This morning, I woke up (it was quite cold) got in the car and found nothing at all. The engine would start and idle but, when I put my foot on the accelerator, nothing happened, the revs climbed very slowly and, when I tried to move off, the engine stalled.
I spoke to a colleague about it and he said that something similar had happened to him when a turbo hose had blown off. That sounded like good news - it's rare you can fix a modern car with a jubilee clip and a screwdriver after all - but I wondered if anyone had any other thoughts as to possible causes. I could do without the car today and possibly tomorrow. And I can always get the AA out. But, does anyone else have any other ideas as to possible causes?
