At the moment, I have no choice but to drive without any of the electronic driver aids mentioned given I have EBD, VDC, ABS, ASR, Hill holder and other assorted messages appearing on the dash when I put the key in. It started off as an intermittant fault but has now been on constantly for weeks. The local Alfa specialist has been unable to track down what the problem is and thinks it could be a dry joint in the EBD unit itself. I'm not holding my breath.
In the mean time, I'm finding my driving has adapted to take into account of not having ABS after a few scary moments when lights turn red. Just like the old days when I had a very tail happy MkI Escort, you learn to drive by the seat of the pants and it's much more fun/scary.
Unfortunately, this and other issues such as the fact that front tyres barely last 8k miles, appalling diesel consumption (why are they designed to deliberately waste fuel?) and a never ending series of minor but irritating faults, means I'm getting rid as soon as the EBD thing is sorted.
Shame, because I had 4 fault free years out of my 156 and the missus' Mito runs just fine. It's not Alfa's, just this one that's basically cr@p.
By the way, if anyone has any suggestions as to why the EBD has died, feel free to reply.
