The Alfa "unreliability" is largely a myth these days. Anything built in the last ten years is going to be as reliable or better than anyone else.
We had a 147 for nearly 8 years, no worries with it and the Brera is much better built so you should be ok.
When you look, look at the history, make sure the cambelt was done after 60,000 miles or so.
The water pump should be changed at the same time, its as a precaution, but if the belt was done and the pump wasn't, look at another or factor in the cost.
Alfa Workshop, or other independant websites will give you an idea of the cost
