You have a tuning box on your car?
Cutting a long story short, my neice's bought it for me for Christmas and gave it to me about 10 days ago when we met up.
It's not the refined act of a remap, but neither is it as crude as having 'just a resistor in a box' fitted.
I put an oscilloscope on it to monitor the response of the input and output, on the proviso that if it looked ill conceived I would send it back and they could buy me Drambuie instead...In actual fact it is a simple but sensible design, which is currently set at position 2 out of 10 on the power scale.
I didn't want to bother but after checking it out first I figured it was safe enough to try. It's alright, it gives a nice lift to the torque under 2000rpm at it's current setting which is good for my style of driving.
I've missed the deadline to send it back for a refund, so what I'll have to do is spray it up with a PCB coating, it's not particularly waterproof. I can see how some of these things get a bad reputation
It was sold as a digital box but after taking the cover off it is definitely analogue, but it's doing what it does reasonably safely, especially at the lower settings. I tried it at a higher setting and it's too agressive for my liking, perfect for the track though, but you can see the smoke from the extra fuelling.
It's fine at the lowest settings (for me anyway), I just now have to remember to unplug it if I want to compare mpg. And on that note I haven't done a brim to brim with it, but it doesn't seem to be costing me more fuel or saving me any.
