Brera or 159?
Hi, all fellow alfisti!
I owned a red 01 147 1.6 TS for 7 years, and I loved it. It was my first Alfa experience, and despite having some lows in the last year I've owned it, I was a happy happy Alfaowner. Late 2011, I needed a diesel car and had the oportunity of buying a 06 VW Passat Wagon 2.0 TDI for a very good price (from a relative). I wanted to save up some money to finally buy a Porsche Boxster, and the VW would be economical for long journeys across Europe. The thing is, I realized I won't be able to afford jumping on the Boxster untill the beginning of next year, and I really miss the pleasure of owning a piece of automotive art (I really felt that when I had the 147). So, I'm considering to buy a Brera. I love it's looks, and the 2.4JTD would be economical enough to travel. Thing is, every review I read about says that it is not a sports car, there are a lot of critics about the engine and body roll.
I felt sportiness behind the 147's wheel. Yes, I had to change the suspension to like the way it handled corners, but I liked the engine and even though it was a bit heavy, I felt that I owned a hot hatch. Is the turbo lag of the JTD that big of a problem? Is it powerfull at least like a 2.0 177bhp BMW engine?
I'm asking what you feel when you drive it, not numbers (I've learned that this is much more important to me when I had the 147). Does it feel more sporty than a 159 2.0 JTD 170?
It's not easy to find a Brera to test drive where I live, so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth testing it, or if I should look for a 159 instead. I just think the Brera is more beautiful, and I really don't need the extra space the 159 has.
I really appreciate any advice you can give me!
