1. The grooves of the tread pattern are not at least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising
. the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread, and
. round the entire outer circumference of the tyre
Note: Each side of the central band of the tyre can be devoid of tread (ie. ‘bald’) and still meet the pass. See diagram below
I had to check this because I realised I was taking a car for an MOT with a very dubious front tyre. However, on getting the ruler out, the tyre was a pass, though both the MOT man and I agreed that it should not be. So yes, 12.5% of the tyre on each side, but that 12.5% needs no tread whatsoever.
It always amazes me how people spend time washing, polishing and loving their cars, spend money on upgrades, remaps, DPF removals etc but dont give a toss what is on those round things keeping their car on the road.
There is not excuse for not knowing how much wear there is on the inside of the front tyres, you only have to look.
Just kidding! Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope it all gets sorted out without too much stress.
Yeh, I know! To be honest, the Wife is not stressed at all it's me. News of my stupidity is filtering out to friends and family and the opportunity for them to bring it up at the approaching New Year get-together's will not be wasted I'm sure!
Was having a giraffe yesterday BUTT oan a serious note auld engineer is making a very valid point which I used to do but now laziness has checked in I jist submit and sort oot fail list.
To fail on easily avoidable easy to check items is to safe the least crazy. But we do not live in an ideal world.
Different on a question or wear on a ball joint etc.where its down to opinion and interpretation.
I recall on one 166 tyre which was near the bone the tester got his dial guage indicator out and measuring the outer edge wear.I said dont waste your time doing that as i am not going to agrue or challenge it.He kept measuring saying that he had to.
So is the 159 rear suspension the same or similar set up to the 166?
Not wishing to digress....I have a 159 and I didn't think I was an "idiot" However, having said that I reversed the said 159 into my Wife's Mito this morning in our driveway. That makes me a colossal idiot. In my defence, if I have any, it was very dark and the Mito is black (and, clearly I am blind). Mito door and front wing damaged, the 159 sustained no damage at all. The Wife took it very well, surprisingly well in fact!
Can I recommend a good setup to you?
A heated garage, a comfy sofa, fridge stocked with beer/wine and maybe sky tv setup in there or freeview!
The perfect doghouse!
