Brera V6 Water pump + ECU fault

I have just replaced the water pump on my 56 plate V6 Q4 and when I started it up, after a few seconds, I got the yellow engine light and a warning to have the engine checked???

I didn't disturb anything except the plug on the air intake and that looks fine. Never had this with any other car before.

Is it possible that an air lock of some kind would trigger some kind of coolant loss issue?

Light won't go off, looks like a trip to a diagnostic facility.

Trawled the forum a bit and found a post saying to start and turn off the engine 4 times and if the fault wasn't serious, it would clear.

Blow me, it worked!!!

Why is't that gem in the handbook?

I can only put it down to some kind of coolant flow issue.
