May i interject and just say there is nothing wrong with these engines. Its fault is actually this cut throat competition between brands about who can hold out the longest for a service interval. I had my 2.2 for many kms and never had a timing chain issue because i said enough with this stupid intervals and enough with these useless dealerships saying they put in 5w40 fully synthetic oil while they actually put in synthetic based sludge creating castrol magnawreck and i serviced it every half of the official interval and i put in shell helix ultra with active cleansing tech to make sure those ports dont go blocking up and my 2.2 worked beatifully. On the 3.2s this problem also exists and once again cured by many people by just shortening the interval and putting in the right stuff. So before any one goes off and yaps about the good ol days and nord this twinspark that busso these just stop and think a second about firstly the intervals for those cars and secondly the comparison in technology between the 2.
I guess the point im trying to get across is dont trust dealerships and their intervals at the end of the day alfa romeo is also a business and in times like these they will make business decisions like this, they save money, the client is happy and everybody wins. Until the chain breaks ofcourse. But before they knew the reprocussions it was a good business decision. If you want your stuff to last maintain it like things have been maintained in the old days when quality was more important than quantity.
Alfa Romeo- Only passions, great passions can elevate the soul to great things
