If they have less than 500 miles on don't be too critical until they're broken in.
I used to have worn Conti sport 2's and they would wander, it's called 'tramlining' and it is as a result of the changing grip as they tyre follows imperfections in the road.
I've changed onto winter tyres for now and they're good quality but don't tramline, but nor ar they as responsive to input or as sticky as the Conti's
I think the feeling that there is a delay in response is because the tread blocks are 8mm tall when your Michelins had 2mm tread blocks. The thicker treads move around an awful lot more and you would have felt a similar thing even if you had of fitted new tyres of the same brand as before.
