egr restricting gasket

Hi I fitted one of these gaskets bought off e-bay, which has four holes in it, whats supposed to be the advantage of doing this, as my initial imppression is that the car is not as nice to drive, the engine being less flexible. Do i perhaps need to disconnect the battery to reset the ecu. Thanks

Definitely reset the ECU in the first instance. You've nothing to lose (apart from your stereo code ). Most people fit restrictive gaskets to reduce the rate of fouling from soot, as the EGR valve draws the exhaust gases through the engine. I'm not aware that fitting one should change the performance or characteristics of the engine.
