159 Lock barrel and Electronic key reprograming
Hi to you all. I've recently purchased my first Alfa and love it. I bought her from a garage who specialize in Alfa Romeos who shall remain nameless at this time.
Now my issue is that the car should have come with two keys and they told me that there was only one. So they gave me a second hand key and told me it was £25 for a reprogram. Being new to the brand I took as ok, plus I was looking forward to getting behind the wheel. However there are conflicting reports about the 159 that suggest that the key cant be reprogrammed and some which say it can. I phoned one specialist and they said they cant. I then spoke to another place which told me it can be done but require the code from Alfa (£40)and then a further change (£40+vat) to program key.
I called the garage and told them this to which they said that they would get the code and forward it to me and that the cost to program should still be only £25. Awaiting code at the moment but then I went onto check the door key with the remote that works.
This will not open the door!!!!!!! I tried lubing as probably never used but the lock feels fine as the key moves but feels to stop on lock pins as incorrect. Ill try a little more wd40 for the benefit of the doubt but at the moment I'm feeling a little let down by the garage, wondering why i should be paying anything at all to have the two keys that the car was advertised with!!!!!
I'm hoping a call to them today will get this matter sorted so I can get on with enjoy such a great car.
Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated.
