Running Costs - Brera S 2.2 vs SV 2.4

Does anyone have any thoughts on the above please? With sub 50k miles on the clock both cost roughly the same and fuel economy doesn't seem far apart. I drive a round 75 mile trip per day but am thinking that doing away with the costly timing belt replacement that the diesel requires would come closer to balancing the cost. Or are their hidden expenses for the S? Cheers.

The 2.2 often suffers with worn timing gear necessitating an expensive chain and sprocket replacement job, but this is likely to be a "one-off", so if it's been done already you shouldn't have to do it again.

Neither car is likely to achieve official fuel consumption figures, especially the 2.4; plenty of testament to that on this forum.
Diesel cars have other issues too: the infamous EGR, DPF, and flow shutter valve problems, as well as increased tyre/suspension wear due to the extra weight.

Drive both, and see which you prefer. Neither car is going to be particularly cheap to run doing that many miles.
