Help 159 2.2 Chain Belt/Engine light

HI all - I have searched these forums but yet to find a definitive answer.

MY 159 (06 2.2 JTS) check engine light appeared about 3 months ago. The error was something about a chain out of sync. Dealer I then think "cleaned" the sensors and cleared the error.

Driving home last night it appeared again, it is once again the chain belt sensor. It appeared when I Went over a speed bump....

How can I be sure it's the belt? It doesn't appear to be in limp mode at all, still drives the same. Drove to work today no problem (apart from the light).

Wouldn't want to waste 1k+ but I also don't want the car to fall apart on me, it's been a fantastic 6 years of ownership and this is my first problem with it.

Need to know the exact description of the error code, but worn timing gear ("stretched chain") is not uncommon with this engine.
