New Spider 2.2 LE Owner 3rd Gear Question

Hi there,

We've just got a 2008 Spider 2.2 JTS LE. Very pleased with the car overall, but one slight concern. When changing into 3rd gear, there is judder in the gear stick, nothing noticeable in the pedal or the way the car pulls away, but there is definitely something there in the change to 3rd that is nowhere else. Syncro problems?

Should we be worried or is this "normal"? We've got a 1yr warranty on the car from a dealer in cheshire, so might contact them, but wondered what peoples experiences were first.

Basically should we be shouting at the dealer to sort it or should we let it "develop" or is it just a quirk of the car?

I've owned MGs all my driving life, so am well used to issues but this is our first Alfa...

159 TI 2.2

3rd gear is known to be ... er, tight lets say with this gearbox in the 159 and brera.
Some have changed the gb oil with some good results.

Yeah, my 2.2 JTS Spider has a little "snick" when shifting into 3rd. Seems as though the syncro isn't quite right on that gear. I bought the car used so I don't know what it was like new.

I just take it easy and let it find it's own way into 3rd rather than forcing it.

We have a 1.9 JTS with exactly the same 3de gear nick. I don't think it is a problem. It is noticeable compared to other gears when changing but i won't open a gear box at this point in time. I found that depressing the clutch all the way results in smooth gear changes.

Thanks for the replies and the welcome to the site. I will keep an eye on it, when I get the chance to drive it, as my daily drive is an Astra Van for work

I do get to play with the spider at weekends when the Julie lets me drive

Apart from this niggle with 3rd, it is a beautiful car and a credit to the previous owner.
