Spoke to Ned today,
He gave me a very good price (which was a lot better than any other Alfa specialist I phoned/emailed (or non specialist for that matter))
But at the end of the day I'm skint. So I'm going to do most of the work myself and just get Autolusso to do the bits which are too specialist for me or anyone I know.
The 159 could be off the road for a couple of weeks whilst I check/double check everything.
I took so much stick from everyone I know when I bought the Alfa (I handed back a brand new Prius, with full maintenance package and a fuel card which covered personal and business fuel to get the 159) but I figured the horror stories about regular break downs etc were just tales spread by people who didn't know any different. Now I've spent 5 hours at the roadside waiting or the RAC and had the shock to the system that is £2000+ quotes (thats not one of the autolusso ones)for fixing something that should never have broken on a 5 year old 75k miles car, at least so far nobody has said "I told you so"
On the other hand,
I didn't have to pay for the fuel to get all the way home from Anglesey (about 60 miles on a transporter will have saved me 1 1/2 gallons of Biodiesel so about £6)
And now I can get my gearbox fixed to better than original condition (shims etc apparently)
So I'll have a more reliable car.
And I had the car booked in (again) for it to be remapped this coming friday, If the box had died after I'd had that done the Mrs would have blamed that (and therefore me) for breaking the gearbox.
So really everything has turned out just right.....
"are you addicted yet?"
Too bloody right I am.......
