You couldn't make it up
Happy as I was this morning when I awoke, eagerly anticipating the morning ahead - as I was due to pick up my Alfa 159 - this has waned somewhat following a water pump failure, within the first few hours of me owning the car.
I'd driven from the Leicester area, down the M1, and managed to get just past Northampton before I got a warning on the dash alerting me to excessive radiator fluid temperature. It advised me to stop and switch off the engine - which I did - and called the AA. It was diagnosed as being a water pump problem, as there didn't appear to be any water circulation in the engine / radiator at all.
The car has done all of 38k miles.
So I have been towed home, tail between legs, to Market Harborough.
I will need to arrange the repairs next week (water pump luckily covered by warranty). So, I guess there are two questions to ask you good folks:
1) Recommended garages in the Market Harborough area who are able to carry out such a job. Bear in mind that I really can't drive the car any great distance, as the engine will just bake.
2) I have seen various advice on here that advises changing water pump and cam belt at the same time. Given the mileage, would you also advise this, or is this best judged by someone who can actually inspect the belt?
All the best,
A very disappointed Andy
