EGR replaced - still not happy!
So I was starting to get some of the tell-tale EGR issues - reduced power, stuttering under acceleration etc. Tried cleaning and fitting a restrictive gasket but no real change. So as an experiment I bought and fitted a full blanking gasket. The car drove so much better and mpg was about 5% better overall.
Anyway, I didnt like the fact that the engine management light was on and so decided to buy a new (reconditioned) EGR valve. Fitted with new gaskets etc.
However since fitting, I've got two problems:
1. Engine managment light is still on. Does this mean there's still a problem?
2. Car is sluggish to drive and dangerously slow to pick up at junctions.
Any ideas what's going on? Maybe it wasnt the EGR in the first place and I've just caused more problems than solved!
One thing I did manage to do while fitting the new valve is knock the connector onto the MAF sensor and take some plastic coating off one of the wires. Could this have upset the MAF and be causing the issues above? The wires to the MAF are still connected so far as I can see.
Any thoughts appreciated. I have considered getting the EGR/DPF removed but want to be sure this will help before shelling out £500 odd quid!
