Charge for warranty work

Hi there,

I bought a 159 third hand with 6 months left on the original 3 year warranty. It seemingly lost power to the rear left headlight and the gear knob came loose around the same time. It's in with a dealer today who has agreed to repair under warranty but wants to charge me 28 to change the name on the warranty because it's still in the name of the original purchaser.

Is this normal or even allowed?

As far as I know, the warranty is with the car, not the person. When I bought my 159, still under warranty, they said thay didn't need to know about the change of owner.

3 series (sorry)

3rd year warranty has to be registered with its owner to make a valid claim. The service book has details of forms to send in for change of owners but an admin fee is levied. If you bought from main dealer they will normally do this on your behalf foc

Yes, third year warranty is dealer based so needs transferring.

If you bought approved used, this would have been done by the dealer at point of sale

Jag XE on order

I bought a 159 that was just in to it's third year warranty and they did not charge me to change. although buying the car at auction 200 miles north of me it actually turned out to have been originally registered at my local dealership (weird huh?) which was maybe why there was no charge?
