Egr blank only ! ? ?

I cleaned my map sensor today as it was caked in crap, I also did the egr valve ... But it has the blanking plate fitted with just 4 evenly spaced 4-5mm holes drilled in. The car hasn't had a dpf removal is there any benefit to just an egr delete, or why has this been done .

The EGR blanking plate with the holes in was a mod done by Alfa I believe.

Is the plate easy to fit to the EGR, are there any photos anywhere?

It is the standard issue Alfa mod to reduce intake contamination. My car had one fitted when I bought it with 120k miles on the clock and it had only had dealer servicing. I think a new EGR was fitted at about 80k miles so maybe they fitted it then. I still cleaned my intake and EGR but they weren't too bad to be honest. I would keep it, it seems to work

I fitted one to my 1.9 last week,

The EGR valve is well caked in soot and crap but seems to be working ok (according to AlfaOBD) so I didn't bother cleaning it.

It took me less than ten minutes to fit, you just need a 10mm socket (you don't need to undo the 13mm bolts from the bottom pipe to fit the blanking plate)

TBH I havent noticed a difference in performance, But I'm having a whole heap of other issues at the moment so I think they are masking any improvements I might have got.

and for 3.99 delivered off ebay and less than 10 minutes of my time it's well worth it.

I've bypassed EGR valves on other vehicles I've owned and only ever had benefits from doing so (less smoke, better performance, better economy) so I see no reason why it should be any different on the Alfa.
