I am new to this forum and I hope that I have posted in the correct area.
Ok at the moment I have a 2004 BMW 320d ES 150bhp with 155000 miles on the clock. I purchased the car about 2 years ago and since day one it has been a living nightmare, on average it is costing me about £100 and £200 too keep going. The amount of suspention components I have gone through is more than enough to stock a BMW dealer for a good 6 months, maybe and exageration but thats how it feels.
Anyway I have just over 12 months left till I can finally get rid of what can only be described as a money canyon.
I accidently came across the Alfa 159 and I fell in love with the styling, I always looked at my car and other BMW's on the road and thought "wow that looks stunning", but since I have seen the 159 and looked into it throughly I truely have been taken by what can only be described as the "alfa's passion", and as of a few weeks ago I realised how many Alfa's arent on the road as to your usual German box I.E. Mercedes, Audi, BMW etc etc, so it really does add something special to owning such a vehicle. As an example there are approx 22000 BMW's for sale on autotrader and only 2200 Alfa's, people will pass opinion as to why that is but I think its because the "usual suspects" take center stage as it is just such a common choice whereas the Alfa remains the star that shines twice as bright but half as long.
Anyway I shall get to the point haha. I am looking at the latest incarnation the 2.0 Diesel (170 bhp) in Lusso spec (I hope I got that right). Is there anybody here that has that spec and engine that can pass comment. Also I remember my mother working for Alfa Romeo when I was much younger (even then it was a special thing to sit in an Alfa, the 156 at the age of 12 being my favourite) and she has always said, even 20 minutes ago that they are so unreliable and will just break down or just break in general. Has this changed or is it still the case?
What I want in the next 12months is something reliable, comfy, economicish, stylish and nippy. I have fallen in love with the 159 and I just hope that if I do own one that I can be safe in the knowledge that its an improved breed, like a fine wine it has improved and become better with age.
I have sat in the 159 and I was open minded but it blew me away as to how brilliant the quality was and how well the car was put together, also the controls and radio seemed to be uber simple to use so that has me sold already based on interior quality but is it the same story on the outside, is the new 2.0 diesel reliable, will it have as many niggles as the 1.9, now that you can pick one up on an 11 plate will it be an improvement seeing as its a discontinued model.
In a nutshell, give me as much info and advise as you can and what to look out for. I am really eager but I still need to learn about Alfa's in the modern age of motoring.
Thank you all for holding on tight and reading till here haha
P.S. excuse the spelling
