I have owned my 159 2.4 JTDM form new in 2007, it now has 89000 on the clock. 2 years ago when just out of warrenty, and whilst driving through Belgium, it suffered a stuck valve in the injection system. The car was in dock for 5 days, cost me £1200 to repair, 3 days lost pre paid accomodation and the cost of a hire car for the period. Alfa UK eventually gave me £300 in vouchers!!
The car has recently started running rough and it seems that it may need new injectors. The service light has also come on so it has been booked into Dews of Brighouse, where it has been serviced from new.
They advise that AR have brought out revised injectors and other related items and to put the engine through all the relevent checks is a 5 hour job, that will be £480 then. I am now told that some of the problems relate to the Exhaust Gas release valve which is a £181 job but it may still need new injectors (no price quoted yet....), oh and by the way the 90k service includes the cambelt and is £1100!! And going back to the problems in belgium it seems that if the parts fitted were not of the latest type then that will also need replacing, so another £1200 is presume.
Just to cap it all the front suspension top arms are knackered and will be £568 to replace.
Now I'm sure you have all kept up and will have come to a figure of £2329 for the investigation, service, EGR and suspension, and I dont even know if the injectoers need doing or the other £1200 item so the total bill have the potential to be around £5000. Recon thats not so far off the cars value!!
Needless to say some items are not being dome as the car is going, and fqg good riddance.
This is my second alfa, there will not be a third.
