Thanks to all those forum members who kindly waded in with their advice regarding my question on which Brera to buy.
I visited the Portsmouth dealership and sadly the Brera S was an absolute dog. Given age and provenance (came from IoW) I expected it to be in pristine condition and was assured by the dealer it would be when I telephoned prior to heading down there. The paintwork has been mopped so badly to remove scratches that they've gone through the paint in places and the finish is now quite flat. The seats have not been properly cared for and on inspection looked as though someone had eaten a three course meal off them. My Maserati seats are also Poltrona Frau leather so I know all too well their fragility and the need to use the best quality cleaning and feeding materials. Then to top it all off, the dealer was sticking to his guns on price and refused to accept that the vehicle's condition was sub-standard. Needless to say I walked away.
Did eventually get to drive both a Brera S and a couple of 3.2 Q4s and the 3.2 Q4 won out for me.
It felt really planted on the road and the dealers really did let me throw the cars about a bit to truly get a feel for handling, etc. these cars are just fantastic! The Q4 is just going to be a lot more useable than the S and I already own a lethal car in the wet in the form of the Maserati
So, in the end I went for the following car from the guys at Perrys in Amersham
Used Alfa Romeo Brera 3.2 V6 JTS Q4 SV 3 door | Perrys
Such a nice bunch of guys to deal with. The car is in near concourse condition, they even offered to replace the nose and boot badges free of charge - as I wasn't happy that these had faded. They were really sensible about doing a deal and gave me the car for an excellent price throwing in new MOT and full 12 months tax. I cannot recommend Perrys highly enough.
Back to the Alfa though - I loved every moment of driving her today and am gutted that I now have to wait until next Friday to collect her.
So, thank you again guys and very much looking forward to joining you at up and coming owners events.
