Hello peeps! Newbie here. I won't lie... I am head over heels for the 159! I've decided on a 2.4 JTDM 210bhp model in black or silver and I love the idea of sitting behind that wheel!!
BUT BUT BUT I am very aprehensive after reading about the many faults and rather odd temprement of this car. Would you seriously reccommend this car or is it for people that have the money to put up with all the issues? (I do not have the money for monthly trips to alfa dealers)
My main concern is that these problems are all to do with sensors and electrics when my minimal expertise lies in the mechanical side of things. Also I am concerned because I live on the Isle of Wight and we don't have an alfa dealer here so if anything serious goes wrong with the car I can't get it to them, even if it was driveable it will cost me £50 - £60 just to get it on the boat and get it looked at.
In favour of the car I have seen a few 159's dotted around the internet with over 100k on their clocks. Are there a lucky few that have been problem free? Are the problems surfacing at birth or at 50-60k?
I recently owned an import subaru forester with a dodgy auto box which cost me £1700 to recondition only for it to break another 2 times after that! I eventually sold it and felt terrible to hear that it went again 6months down the line!
I don't need another problem car nor can I afford it in my current situation.
Should I play it safe and go with an Audi A3/A4 or BMW? (YAWN)
I would love some advice before I make the plunge and regret it. I know to look out for ones that have had the DPF removed and cam belt done, is that all it takes to own a reliable one??? Are there still ECU issues on top of this?
Any advice much appreciated! Cheers guys
