Hi Neil, and welcome to the forum
I recently test drove a 3.2V6 159 but there were a few things I noticed that I'd like some advice on:
1) Brakes - When decelerating from high speed, I felt like I really had to give the brakes some pressing to get it to stop, when I did give it some force the car did stop quickly, but the first part of the travel only gave gentle braking. Is this a sign of something? I get the feeling the car has been stood at the dealers for a while, so could it be something to do with that?
Pads on the way out, or brakes need to be properly bled (I suspect the latter). You shouldn't need a great deal of pushing force to get it to stop.
2) Windows - the electric windows seemed to clunk pretty loudly at the end of their travel - Sensors? Re-alignment? Alfa quirk?
Not an Alfa quirk. Mine don't clunk, nor have any of the other ones I've test driven. I would suspect alignment. I've never had to realign mine, but AFAIK the procedure is to drive the windows all the way to the bottom, then keep pressing on the 'down' button, for at least five seconds, so as to force a re-alignment.
3) Heat - I did red line it a few times on the test drive and did a standing start at full chat, so the engine would have been hot, but it smelt hot, and I didn't really expect that. The oil and water temps never went above the middle of the dials. I didn't check the dipstick for oil depth. Possibly this was just the hooligan driving, but thought I'd check!
Car been standing around a long time?? Not sure I can help you on this one.
4) Bluetooth - the car doesn't have bluetooth, but it does have the phone buttons on the wheel. I have read around the forums about retrofitting but not sure whether that applies to this model - 2007 non-Bose. Any views on cost for a kit and fitting?
Retrofitting Blue & Me is probably not the way to go, as it appears to be prohibitively expensive for what you get. A basic parrot Bluetooth kit seems to be well regarded in terms of the amount of bang you get for your buck.
Mine didn't have Blue & Me either, and after some consideration I only retrofitted iPod connectivity. My car is for driving - not making phone calls. If I wanted a car for making phone calls, I would have bought an Audi
Thanks in advance for all comments. (I am scouring the forums for info on this, but as I know nothing about this I thought I had better ask directly to avoid misinterpretation)
No problems. Best of luck. I probably don't have all the answers right, but it might prompt somebody a bit more clued up to come and give you better answers
