I think you are all getting a little confussed. Depending on you mechanical ability its not a hard job at all, you just need the correct timing tools. It is much easyer to do while you are changing the cam belt and bits as most if not all of the stuff in the way is stripped down to do the cam belt. Once all the stuff is done changing the water pump is less than 5 mins. The whole job cam belt, tensioner, idler and water pump can be done in around 1 hour plus the fluids, once practiced.
The only reason the dealers charge so much is down to warrenty claims back to Fiat. Fiat state how long each job should take which is not always correct, some they make on hours and some they lose. So for this fact the dealers just keep putting up thier rate per hour, as they do a hell of a lot of warrenty work, just like all the other makes, which is claimed back from Fiat ( ok Alfa Romeo ).
