It's great isn't it........
alfared: I don't have the lovely Acceleras on my car. I did on the previous 159, so am able to talk from experience. Had the 18" versions on a remapped 1.9 saloon and all was well. As an advanced driver I used that little known technique called "common sense" and drove within the limits of the road conditions, the capacity of the car and its tyres. So my family and myself were all fine.
The current 159 has the stupidly named but reasonably well performing Nankang AS1s all round. Again, driven within the boundaries of normality and common sense all is fine.
I think you are being a little harsh and to some extent rather rude in you comments above, I take the safety and comfort of my family, loved ones and even other road users very seriously. To say otherwise is insulting.
I didn't say anything about the tyres in particular, I was merely trying to lighten the conversation as I could see exactly where it was going. And I was right.
Would I buy a budget (some call them mid-range depending upon supplier) tyre if I had a V6/performance/sports car? No. Why? Well, if I could afford to run the said vehicles I should be able to afford to maintain them in the manner appropriate.
Anyway, just popping to the carpark to check that the 159 hasn't veered off into a ditch and burst into flames due to its budget tyres..... (thats a joke that is, to make folk laugh, not to have a dig or make people feel small.....)
Happy and safe driving FELLOW ALFA drivers.
